Just read the story of Pinky Deras in todays (Sat, Aug 21 Detroit News on line) It is very well written I would have liked to have been at the Banquet last week.

I was at Orchard Lake St. Mary's, Orchard Lake as a student in the early 1970's where Mike Paciorek (younger brother of Tom) was there too. Those were great athletic years at St. Mary's and in the Catholic League.

I also see the Name of Tom Niczay in the article above. He lived directly accross the street (Sunset Ave) from me in Detroit in my boyhood days. (1954-1970) I remember him as good in baseball too. When Tom was off playing ball or something else, his dad had me cutting his lawn... for some pay, of course

And I just happened to read Greg Kowalski book "Hamtramck, the Driven City". I found it very interesting.

I would like to see a copy of the Citizen..., the Hamtramck news on coverage of that Little League game they won in 1959... It was probably all about the win

Art Deras retired from being a Warren police officer and I think he moved to the southwest maybe Arizona, close to you. Some of the other members of the team have passed on. I was the last one cut off that team before they started their championship run. I hope I helped you some. (dkrzeminski@att.net)

I played right field for San Antonio in the 1961 pony World Series. What a gaime it was!! From my right field position I saw Art Deras foul off a ball to left field up against the mountain that must have gone 400 feet. It was by far the hardest hit ball I have ever seen. He also pitched in the our game. I got his fast ball in the dirt. I never saw it. I just saw the dirt it kicked up. The next pitch I just swung the bat and I somehow managed to hit the top of the fence just a few inches away from a home run with a runner on base. Oh is the ever a game of inches. Anyway, if anybody knows Art or any of the other guys on that fantastic Hamtramick team, please write me and let me know how you are. Thanks Bob Berry
