Letters: Immigrant Story Has Liberal Slant
Regarding the article about “The Little Wooden Bowl.”
I thought it was good, however, I didn’t care for the article on immigration. I thought it told only half the story. The real story is about the crime illegal immigration brings to our country.
We spend trillions of dollars on health care and schools, welfare because of illegal immigration and the illegals take all their money out of our country. They also steal jobs such as plumbing, landscaping, construction and electrical.
They also don’t pay taxes.
Stop telling us one side of the story like all the other liberal papers.
Jim Bialas
Hamtramck

Mr. Bialas is also not being very comprehensive in his portrayal of immigration. This is a very complicated issue that requires much more study and thought then is usually given to it. One Issue that is often ignored in this discussion is the farm subsidies given to large corn producers in this country. These government subsidies allow corn to be sold at much lower prices than it can be grown. This corn has been dumped into Mexican markets and have put hundreds of thousands of farmers out of work. It costs these mexican farmers more to grow the corn then they can sell it for. Shouldn’t we examine the policies that force these people here before we condemn them for coming?
