Do local officials know something we should all know?
We can’t help but chuckle at the thought that four out of six city councilmembers are seeking higher office in the upcoming election cycle.
There’s nothing wrong with local elected officials seeking to step up the political ladder, but Hamtramck is in the middle of a financial crisis, and the timing is certainly curious.
Are they abandoning a sinking ship?
Shouldn’t they stick around until the city solves its finances?
Voters should ask these local officials just what they have done for Hamtramck so far while in office before they consider who to vote for.
This mass run for elected office outside of Hamtramck is unnerving at the very least. It makes you wonder if they know something we should all know.
In other words, is this a signal that Hamtramck’s financial woes are so insurmountable that our elected officials are looking for an exit?
On the other hand, it would be a breath of fresh air if Hamtramck had an actual representative in the county and state governments. So, come this August when the primary election is held, we’ll most likely be rooting for the home team despite our initial reservations.
